An old picture (2009) but Jas is so cute!
In 2009, the Great Recession hit just as my baby girl turned 1 and I got laid off from my job for the crime of being the only single mom in the office. What followed were 2 ugly, hang on by my fingernails survival years where I started my own business and slowly had a massive re-shuffling of how I wanted to live my life and what my priorities for raising Jas are going to be.

The promise of work hard and you will retire and send your kids to college and have health insurance was replaced with a scrap by, work multiple jobs and forget about ever getting to retire and keep those fingers crossed you don't get hurt reality.

Which totally sucks BUT if I am only going to work odd projects here and there and spend large chunks of time without work (winter in my type of work) and never see retirement then I am going to embrace it. So once my business was chugging along and producing enough for us to survive I realized that I didn't want to spend those long chunks of winter down time sitting around. So I am living my retirement now and I am trying to introduce my daughter to as much of the world as I can.

Our first trip is a trial run to Indonesia as prep for a someday Round the World Trip of a year or two.
